"Unite and Rise" Focuses on Constitutional Crisis

Mary Miller | Published on 9/23/2025
The League of Women Voters’ “Unite & Rise 8.5" campaign aims to bring out 8.5 million individuals to oppose the current administration’s anti-democratic actions. 8.5 million is the estimated number of voters it would take to bring about change through nonviolent protest.

(The Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights: “Nonviolent protests ... engaging a threshold of 3.5% of the population have never failed to bring about change.” 8.5 million is 3.5% of the approximately 245 million Americans who were eligible to vote in the 2024 general election.)

The national and Indiana Leagues recommend the following:
Tell senators to oppose the SAVE Act
Urge members of Congress to stand for democracy
Contact your Indiana representative and senator to oppose mid-cycle redistricting

Fight for the wellness of our democracy
If you are a League member, carry your tote bag or wear your League pin or shirt in public to spark conversations. (If you don’t ask, the answer is always “no.”)
