Charles Reigeluth and Michael Molenda have identified 91 current threats to American democracy. They propose election reforms and regulatory changes to address these issues.
Professor Reigeluth is an educational theorist who focuses on instructional design theories and is a professor in the Instructional Systems Technology Department at Indiana University. Professor Molenda, now retired from teaching in Instructional Systems Technology at Indiana University, continues to live in Bloomington and conduct research and write.
Both are authors of the white paper titled "Remedies for the Most Serious Threats to Democracy in the US." During the interview, Charles and Michael discussed their work as the Sycamore Group, identifying 91 current threats to American democracy and explaining how these build upon historical challenges to democratic governance. They covered various threats including voter suppression, gerrymandering, political polarization, and foreign interference, particularly from Russia, while proposing election reforms and regulatory changes to address these issues.
