You've likely read about Governor Abbot's effort in Texas to gain five seats for Republicans in Congress and Governor Newsom's proposal to redistrict California to offset the Republican seats in Texas. Indiana should not join this fight!
The League opposes gerrymandering in both cases — in any cases. Citizens' votes should not be partisan pawns! This blatant power grab risks permanent damage to our democracy. As LWV CEO Celina Stewart points out, "The League stands for maps that reflect communities, not political calculations. Voters deserve stable, fair representation — not to be used as pawns in a power grab. When politicians rewrite the rules mid-game to protect their control, democracy loses."

Call the Governor Braun’s office immediately at 317-232-4567. Remind the governor that he works for us, not the President.
Sign the petition that Common Cause created in opposition to mid-cycle redistricting. It is important that we have people signing over the weekend because the Indiana House leadership is supposed to make an announcement about what they plan to do on Monday.
