Legislative Update
The Leagues of Women Voters of Bloomington-Monroe County and Brown County, the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, and the Brown County Chamber of Commerce are pleased to co-sponsor three LWV Legislative Updates in 2022: January 22, February 12, and March 26, each from 9:30 to 11 am. These will all be Zoom virtual sessions. State legislators representing Monroe and Brown counties will report on their work and priorities for the current session of the Indiana General Assembly and will take questions from attendees. All legislative updates are free and open to the public. Click on the registration button at the upper right to register for the March session. After you register you will receive a confirmation with a link to the meeting.
All sessions will be recorded by Community Access Television Services through the Monroe County Public Library, with the video available on the CATS website using the search function and shortly after each update at https://lwv-bmc.org/legis-update.
The work of the Indiana General Assembly can be followed on its website, www.iga.in.gov, which provides a wealth of information and offers the possibility to track the progress of individual bills. The Bloomington Herald-Times and other local media also provide reports on the activities of the General Assembly.
Guidelines
Because these sessions are virtual, questions will be handled a bit differently from our typical in-person sessions. If you want to ask a question of your legislators, alert the Question Moderator via individual chat. Questioners will be recognized in the order that they submit requests and will be asked to unmute and turn on video when posing their questions. If there is time, attendees may ask additional questions. If you do have a question, here are the guidelines:
- You may ask one question. After responses are given, the next person in line will be directed to ask their question.
- You may ask a second question only after all other questions have been asked.
- Each question is limited to 1 minute. (You will be timed!)
- Please formulate your question to elicit information of benefit to all audience members, regardless of their positions on an issue. All legislators will be given the opportunity to answer.
- Avoid confrontational wording of your question. This is intended to be an informational session, not a debate or an opportunity for public performance.
- Please be civil and respectful in both your question and your demeanor.
- Posing a question constitutes your permission to be recorded by CATS for rebroadcast.
